Section 05 — Winter Ops Notes

Built for the realities of ski season.

  • A
    Density altitude & temperature
Warm afternoons cut usable runway length and climb. We plan arrivals for cooler windows and right-size the aircraft to your actual passenger count.
  • B
    Weather holds & alternates
Valley weather changes fast. Every KASE trip comes pre-planned with Eagle (KEGE) and Rifle (KRIL) alternates, plus surface transport arranged.
  • C
    De-ice, slots & curfew
Peak weeks add slot programs and de-ice queues. We brief the operator early, reserve ground services, and protect the noise curfew window.
  • D
    Crew currency to KASE
We verify the assigned crew's recent Aspen experience and special-authorization currency — not just the certificate on file.

"We flew the family in for Christmas week. The Aspen desk had already pre-checked the crew's recency, picked an aircraft that could actually get out warm, and held a weather alternate. It was the calmest mountain arrival we've had."

Section 07 — FAQ
Aspen, answered

What travelers actually ask about KASE.

Can any jet land at Aspen?+

No. KASE is a special-authorization airport with a steep (6.59°) approach, high field elevation (7,820 ft), and weight/wingspan limits. The aircraft and crew both need specific authorization and recent experience.

We only quote aircraft the operator has cleared for the field on your day — accounting for temperature, payload, and runway conditions.

What about weather holds?+

Valley weather can change in minutes and the approach has high minimums. Every KASE trip is pre-planned with alternates — typically Eagle (KEGE) and Rifle (KRIL) — and we pre-arrange ground transport so a divert doesn't strand you.

We'll also tell you up front whether the forecast supports your planned arrival window.

Night arrivals — what's allowed?+

Aspen operates under a voluntary noise curfew from approximately 23:00 to 07:00 local, plus slot programs during peak periods. Late arrivals and early departures are restricted.

We schedule your block times to respect the curfew with margin, and we'll surface alternative arrival airports if your schedule can't flex.

What are the best alternate airports?+

The two we plan around most often:

Eagle County Regional (KEGE) — about 70 miles northwest, longer runway (9,000 ft), fewer restrictions, well-connected to Vail/Beaver Creek ground links.

Garfield County / Rifle (KRIL) — a reliable lower-elevation alternate with generous runway and minimal curfew friction.

Denver (KDEN) is also viable but adds significant ground time.

How far in advance should I book for peak ski season?+

For Christmas, New Year, and Presidents' Week, the best aircraft and slots go 4–8 weeks ahead. Last-minute is possible, but selection shrinks and pricing rises sharply.

If your dates are flexible by a day, tell us — shifting a departure by 12–24 hours often unlocks better aircraft and lower repositioning cost.
